■ WHAT IS|What is the Royal Windsor Cup
The Royal Windsor Cup is a traditional polo tournament representing the United Kingdom, hosted by the prestigious Guards Polo Club, located in Windsor, England.

Polo is a team sport played on horseback, and with a background of royalty and aristocracy, it is also known as the “king of sports”.

The tournament began with the founding of the club in 1955 and has developed over the years through its deep ties with the British Royal Family. Today, it is widely recognized not only as a sporting competition but also as an international social event.

■ EXPERIENCE|Japanese Food Culture and Yakitori Experience on a Stage with Ties to the British Royal Family
The presentation of Japanese food culture at the tournament was carried out under the curation of Japanese foodie Masayuki Terada (Shokuju Maro). Under his direction, having previously overseen the tournament’s food and beverage program, leading Japanese restaurants were selected to form this initiative.

In addition, at the pre-event reception held at London’s prestigious restaurant “Mosimann’s” prior to the tournament, a special course created by renowned Japanese restaurants was served, bringing together and showcasing the diversity of Japanese food culture.
The restaurant is a prestigious establishment with a distinguished history of providing cuisine for British Royal Family-related events and royal weddings. The presence of Japanese cuisine on this stage became a symbolic opportunity demonstrating the high international recognition of Japanese food culture.

On the day of the tournament, in an area adjacent to the competition grounds, TORISHIKI ICHIMON artisans, including Yoshiteru Ikegawa, stood at the grill and served yakitori prepared using the traditional technique of grilling over a “near-high flame”. In a live-cooking presentation, they offered two varieties: “kashiwa (thigh)” and “kata (upper wing)”.

Drawn by the enticing aroma, a line of visitors formed in front of the tent, where guests from Japan and abroad, including actors and models, enjoyed the yakitori. The approximately 250 skewers prepared for the event were sold out, attracting significant interest and receiving high praise.

For TORISHIKI ICHIMON, this occasion marked its first expansion into Europe and served as an opportunity to demonstrate that yakitori, a culinary tradition unique to Japan, can be appreciated as a meaningful cultural experience on the international stage.

Going forward, the brand will continue to share with the world an experiential value that encompasses respect for ingredients, the techniques of grilling, and the aesthetic sensibility created through the movements and craftsmanship of its artisans.
